What is Olsen Clinic?
Olsen Clinic is a hormone and thyroid practice in Springdale, Arkansas, at 5501 Willow Creek Dr., Ste. 104, in the Willow Creek Medical Office Building. Dr. Mark Olsen, M.D., is the physician who prescribes. He also holds a naturopathic medical degree and has training in functional and anti-aging medicine. He started his family medicine practice in northwest Arkansas in 1988, began prescribing bio-identical hormones in 1993, and has limited new patients to hormone replacement since 2010.
The clinic lists four services: hormone level testing, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), thyroid testing and treatment, and medical marijuana certification. It also sells pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements through an online store linked from its site. The medications it names are estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3). It is not taking new primary care patients. Current patients can check lab results, request refills and send messages through a patient portal. Google lists the clinic as a medical clinic with a 4.2 rating from 20 reviews.
In its own words: "Dr. Olsen specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement."
What does it cost?
Olsen Clinic does not publish prices, a consultation fee or membership terms. It also does not say whether it accepts insurance, whether its visit fees include medication, or whether it offers telehealth visits. The clinic invites new patients to call (479) 770-4100 to arrange a first appointment, so that is the place to get the numbers. Ask for the cost of the first visit, each follow-up visit and any lab work, whether medication is billed on top of those fees, and whether the clinic bills insurance at all.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask whether Dr. Olsen writes your prescriptions himself and who answers questions between visits. The clinic calls its hormones bio-identical but does not say whether they are FDA-approved products or compounded preparations, so ask which one you would receive and where it is filled. Ask which thyroid tests are run besides TSH, since the clinic holds that TSH alone misses cases. Ask whether the online supplements are required and how cancellation works. The clinic also argues that most doctors are biased against hormone replacement. Those are its views, so ask your own doctor about them before you decide.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you already know you want bio-identical hormone therapy, thyroid treatment or medical marijuana certification, and you are willing to get the full cost in writing before you book. It is a poor fit if you need a primary care doctor, weight loss care or peptide therapy, since the clinic names none of those and is not taking new primary care patients.
