What is Alabama Urology & Robotics Center?
Alabama Urology & Robotics Center is a urology practice at 1210 14th Avenue, SE, Decatur, AL 35601. Its main work is urology, from urinary tract infections to prostate and kidney cancer, plus surgery. Its four listed services are Urology Services, Hormone Therapy, Robotic Surgery and GreenLight, so hormone therapy is one part of the practice, not the whole of it.
William E. Hughes, MD, and Sergey S. Ananyev, MD, are the named prescribers. Both are listed with American Board of Urology certification. One joined the practice in 1997 and the other in 2012.
The hormone service is Hormone Pellet Therapy for men and women, using BioTE pellets. The clinic calls it BHRT, short for Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, and says the procedure is performed in the office. In its own words: "These pellets use strict medical guidelines and are implanted into the fatty tissue underneath the skin."
The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, and it is closed on weekends. It does not offer telehealth. It is rated 4.6 on Google from 220 reviews, under the category Urologist.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices for hormone pellet therapy or any other service. It does not state a consultation fee, and it does not say whether the pellet cost includes the hormones and the implant procedure. It says it accepts most insurance plans but names none, and it does not say whether pellet therapy is billed to insurance or paid in cash. Since telehealth is not offered, expect an office visit. Call 256-353-0605 and ask for the full cost of the first visit and of a full course of treatment before you book.
What should you ask before you book?
Ask which physician will prescribe your hormones and who will manage your care afterward. Ask whether the quoted price covers the pellets, the implant, the office visits and follow-up lab work, and what those labs cost. Ask what hormones the pellets contain and whether they are made by the manufacturer or by a compounding pharmacy. Ask whether a hormone level test is needed before you start, and how often pellets must be replaced and what each replacement costs. The clinic lists conditions it says replacement can relieve and others it says it can help prevent. Ask which of those your prescriber believes apply to you and what evidence that opinion rests on. Finally, ask how to stop treatment and whether a fee applies if you do.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you live in or near Decatur, want a urology practice that also offers pellet hormone therapy, and are willing to get the full price by phone before booking. It is a poor fit if you need telehealth or want a published price list before any visit.
