About FACE

What is FACE?

FACE is a medical spa based in Oakland, California, with a second location in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. It was established in 2019 as a woman owned business, and its treatment list leans heavily toward injectables and skin work: neuromodulators, dermal fillers, Radiesse, Sculptra, Kybella for chin reduction, thread lift, skin boosters, plasma fibroblast, liquid BBL, Procell microchanneling, CryoToning, CryoSlimming, and Cryoskin jaw and chin sculpting. The medical director is Dr. John Tesman, MD, who has also specialized in anti-aging medicine, and the founder and provider is Desiree Holman, RN.

Alongside the aesthetic menu, FACE offers two services relevant here. For weight loss, it lists telehealth semaglutide injections. For hormone therapy, it offers Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, run through a telehealth partnership rather than in person. In its own words: "FACE proudly partners with Dr. Valerie Phillips, ND, to offer Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) via telehealth." Its own materials also note that Dr. Phillips is a naturopathic doctor, not a medical doctor, and is not a supervising physician for FACE or for Desiree Holman, RN. The spa also runs neurofeedback sessions and a food inflammation test as part of its wellness offerings.

This listing is for its Oakland office at 3830 Piedmont Ave.

What does it cost?

For BHRT, the first telehealth visit is $300 and covers a review of medical history, ordering of lab tests, and screening tests. Follow up telehealth visits run $150 to $250 and cover review of lab and test results along with adjustments to the treatment plan. Dr. Val does not accept insurance directly but can work with patients to get labs billed under PPO insurance, or route them to low cost private lab companies instead.

No price is published for the telehealth semaglutide program itself. If you are interested in that service, ask directly what it costs per visit or per month and whether medication is part of that figure. Financing through Cherry Financing is offered for treatments booked at FACE, worth asking about if cost is a factor across multiple services.

What should you ask before you book?

Since BHRT is coordinated through a naturopathic doctor who is explicitly described as not a supervising physician for FACE, ask directly who holds prescribing authority for your hormone therapy and how that arrangement works in practice. Ask whether the $300 first visit fee and the $150 to $250 follow up fees include any medication, or only the consultation and lab review.

For the semaglutide program, ask who prescribes it, since no prescriber is tied to that service specifically, and ask whether the medication would be brand name or compounded. Ask what lab work costs beyond what is billed to insurance or routed to a private lab, and how to cancel or stop treatment if your plans change.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you are mainly looking for aesthetic treatments like fillers, neuromodulators, or skin tightening, and want the option to add hormone therapy or telehealth weight loss through the same practice. It is worth a closer look elsewhere if you want in person hormone management with a physician on site rather than a separate telehealth partnership.
