What is Functional?
Functional, which also goes by Functional Living & Aesthetics, is a medical aesthetics practice with offices in Tampa and Riverview, Florida. Most of its menu is cosmetic: dermal fillers, wrinkle relaxers using XEOMIN and JEUVEAU, PRP treatments, medical-grade skincare and peels, Tetra Pro CO2 laser resurfacing, and IV and vitamin injections. Its medical services sit under concierge medicine and telemedicine, where it lists medically supervised weight loss, bio-identical hormonal replacement therapy and peptide therapy, sick visits, annual wellness check-ups, prescription refills and lab services. Virtual visits are offered from home or work.
In its own words: "We help clients achieve their weight loss goals through personalized nutrition, fitness plans, and, when needed, medication."
Who prescribes, and what are their credentials?
The founder is a nurse practitioner. Two names appear for her. Its homepage gives Kacie Robinson, AGACNP-BC, APRN, MSN, and its About page gives Kacie Brown, MSN, APRN, AGACNP-BC. Either way, the About page says she earned a Master's of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami, has been board certified with the American Nurses Credentialing Center since 2018, and has over 13 years in the medical field, including neurology and ICU work. Google shows the business a 5 rating from 77 reviews under the category Wellness center.
What does it cost?
It does not publish prices for weight loss or hormone therapy. The website links to a full menu and pricing page, so check there and ask for the figures in writing. It names CareCredit, a health and wellness credit card that lets you pay over time. It does not say whether it takes insurance, and it does not say whether any price includes medication. No consultation fee is stated.
What should you ask before you book?
Start with the prescriber. Ask which name is on the license and the prescription, since the two pages give two different surnames for the same founder. Ask who would write a weight loss or hormone prescription and whether that person sees patients by video.
Ask whether a monthly fee covers the medication or whether it is billed separately. Ask which medication a weight loss program would use and whether it is brand-name or compounded. Ask what follow-up visits and lab work cost, since lab services are listed without prices. Ask how to cancel or pause, and whether a fee applies. Ask whether insurance is accepted and whether HSA or FSA cards work, because only CareCredit is named.
Who is it a good fit for?
This is a good fit if you want injectable or skin treatments from a nurse practitioner and would like weight loss or hormone questions handled by video. If you need the total cost and the medication terms up front, get them in writing before you pay anything.
