About Helix

What is Helix?

Helix is a hormone care practice that describes itself as mobile. It says staff come to your home or office for blood draws, and that it has no clinics. It still lists street addresses in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle and many other cities, so it is not clear whether patients are seen in an office or only at home. In its own words: "we’ll come to your home or office for labs, consults, and setup."

Its main service is hormone therapy. Depending on the membership, that includes testosterone compounded with MCT oil, estrogen and progesterone therapy, gonadorelin, enclomiphene, pregnenolone, microdose Cialis, oxytocin and holistic estrogen blockers. Its peptide offering is HGH therapy using sermorelin. It also lists sleep and mitochondrial enhancement therapy and hormone blood testing.

It does not name a prescriber. Its pages describe a practitioner who customizes your protocol after an at-home physical and a telehealth consult. It has a Google rating of 3.5 from 27 reviews and is listed as an alternative medicine practitioner.

What does it cost?

The membership is $525 a month. The price is described as everything included: treatments, labs, delivery and concierge. The membership description also says labs, consults and medications are covered by one flat monthly fee.

An invite-only Black Card program takes $200 off the monthly price. If you want to be considered, you can write "Black Card" in the promo box when you book.

It does not state a consultation fee. It does not say whether it bills insurance, and it does not state commitment or cancellation terms.

What should you ask before you book?

Ask whether you will be seen in one of its offices or only at home and by telehealth. Ask which practitioner signs your prescriptions and what their credentials are. Ask whether the $525 fee covers every medication you would take, and what the add-on programs cost.

Ask whether the testosterone and the other medications are compounded, and which pharmacy fills them. Ask what follow-up visits and repeat labs cost beyond the monthly fee. Ask whether it bills insurance and whether HSA funds can be used.

Ask how to cancel and whether there is a minimum term. Ask how eligibility for Black Card is decided and whether the $200 discount continues month to month. It does not list a phone number or hours, so ask how to reach someone before you commit.

Who is it a good fit for?

This is a good fit if you want hormone care that comes to your home or office, you are comfortable paying a flat monthly fee, and you want clear answers on who prescribes, whether any office visits happen, and how cancellation works before you pay.
